Day 1
Day 1: Arrive in Manali – Drive to Jobra Roadhead – Trek to Jobra Campsite

Your Hampta Pass Trek from Manali begins with your arrival in Manali, one of the most popular mountain towns in Himachal Pradesh. Trekkers are expected to report at the designated meeting point in Manali by morning. After a short briefing by the Himalayan Warrior trek team, you will get an introduction to the route, weather conditions, packing essentials, safety rules and the complete Hampta Pass Trek itinerary.

After lunch, the journey begins with a scenic drive from Manali towards Jobra Roadhead, the starting point of the trek. The drive itself gives you a beautiful introduction to the landscapes of Himachal Pradesh. As you leave the busy town behind, the road gradually climbs through forested sections, mountain villages and valley views.

From Jobra Roadhead, you begin a short trek towards the campsite. This is an easy introductory walk and helps trekkers adjust to the mountain environment. The trail passes through forest patches and open grassy sections. Since the walk is short, it is perfect for acclimatisation before the longer trekking days ahead.

Jobra is a peaceful campsite surrounded by Himalayan greenery. In the evening, trekkers can relax, enjoy warm tea, meet fellow trekkers and prepare for the next day. This first day is important because it helps your body slowly adjust before gaining more altitude on the Hampta Pass Trek package.

Trek Duration: Around 30 minutes
Stay: Campsite at Jobra
Difficulty: Easy
Meals: Dinner

Day 2
Day 3: Trek from Jwara to Balu Ka Ghera

The second day of the Hampta Pass Trek takes you from Jobra to Jwara, one of the most scenic campsites on this route. After breakfast at the campsite, the trek begins with a gentle walk through beautiful landscapes. The trail initially moves towards Chika and then gradually opens into wider valley sections.

This day is known for its natural beauty. You will walk beside streams, cross small water channels and pass through meadows surrounded by mountain views. The route offers a classic Himalayan trekking experience with green slopes, wildflowers, rocks and peaceful valley scenery.

As you move ahead, the trail includes a gradual ascent through a rocky section. The climb is manageable, but trekkers should maintain a steady pace and stay hydrated. Jwara is a beautiful open campsite with views of mountains, flowing streams and green meadows. This campsite is one of the reasons why Hampta Pass is counted among the best treks in Himachal Pradesh.

The day is not too difficult, which makes it good for beginners who are doing a guided trek in India for the first time. However, trekkers should still walk carefully because the terrain can be uneven in some sections.

By afternoon, you will reach Jwara campsite. After reaching camp, the team will serve snacks and tea. The evening can be spent exploring the campsite, clicking photographs and enjoying the peaceful mountain surroundings.

Trek Distance: Approx. 4.5 km
Trek Duration: Around 4 hours
Altitude Gain: Approx. 9,379 ft to 11,194 ft
Stay: Campsite at Jwara
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, Dinner

Day 3
Trek from Jwara to Balu Ka Ghera

Day 3 of the Hampta Pass Trek itinerary takes you deeper into the Himalayas as you trek from Jwara to Balu Ka Ghera. This day gives trekkers a stronger high-altitude trekking experience as the landscape starts changing gradually.

After breakfast, you begin walking through meadows and open valley sections. The trail is extremely scenic, with mountains rising on both sides and the valley becoming wider and more dramatic. As you move higher, the green sections slowly reduce and rocky terrain becomes more visible.

The route from Jwara to Balu Ka Ghera includes gradual climbs, boulder sections and loose rock trails. The ascent is not extremely steep, but the altitude gain makes the walk feel slightly more demanding. This is why the Hampta Pass Trek difficulty level is considered moderate.

Balu Ka Ghera is located in a wide alpine zone surrounded by rugged mountains. The campsite gives a true feeling of being close to the high pass. The name “Balu Ka Ghera” is often associated with sandy or rocky ground near the campsite. It is one of the most important camping locations before crossing Hampta Pass.

This day is also important for acclimatisation. Trekkers should avoid walking too fast, drink enough water and listen carefully to the instructions of the trek leader. The weather can change quickly in this section, so carrying rainwear, warm layers and gloves is important.

By evening, you settle at Balu Ka Ghera campsite. This is usually a cold campsite compared to the previous ones, so trekkers should wear proper layers after sunset. The night view from this campsite can be beautiful if the sky is clear.

Trek Distance: Approx. 5 km
Trek Duration: Around 4 hours
Altitude Gain: Approx. 11,194 ft to 12,411 ft
Stay: Campsite at Balu Ka Ghera
Difficulty: Moderate
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, Dinner

Day 4
Day 4: Balu Ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass

Day 4 is the most exciting and challenging day of the Hampta Pass Trek package. This is the day when you cross the famous Hampta Pass, situated at an altitude of around 14,000 ft. The trek from Balu Ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass is long, adventurous and extremely rewarding.

The day starts early because the pass-crossing section requires more time and stable weather. After breakfast, trekkers begin the climb towards Hampta Pass. The first section includes a gradual ascent, but the trail becomes steeper as you move closer to the pass. Depending on the season, you may find snow patches on the route, especially during June and early season batches.

The climb to Hampta Pass is the highlight of the entire trek. As you gain altitude, the views become more dramatic. You can see snow-covered mountains, glacial valleys and wide Himalayan landscapes. Reaching the top of the pass gives trekkers a strong sense of achievement.

Hampta Pass is famous because it connects the lush green Kullu Valley with the barren and rugged landscapes of Lahaul. This dramatic transition makes it one of the most popular crossover treks in India. For foreign travellers searching for Hampta Pass Trek India, best Himalayan treks for beginners, or short treks in India from Manali, this section is the main attraction.

After spending some time at the pass, the descent towards Shea Goru begins. The descent can be steep and slippery, especially if there is snow or loose soil. Trekkers must follow the trek leader’s instructions carefully and use trekking poles for support. This part of the day requires focus and patience.

After the steep descent, the trail gradually becomes easier and opens into the Shea Goru campsite. Shea Goru is located on the Lahaul side and offers a completely different landscape compared to the green valleys of the earlier days. The terrain becomes more barren, raw and rugged, showing the dramatic beauty of Himachal’s high-altitude desert region.

This is usually the longest trekking day, so trekkers should be physically prepared. It is also the most memorable day of the Hampta Pass Trek from Manali.

Trek Distance: Approx. 5 km
Trek Duration: Around 8–9 hours
Highest Altitude: Approx. 14,065 ft
Route: Balu Ka Ghera – Hampta Pass – Shea Goru
Stay: Campsite at Shea Goru
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Evening Snacks, Dinner

Day 5
Day 5: Trek from Shea Goru to Chhatru – Optional Chandratal Lake Visit

Day 5 of the Hampta Pass Trek itinerary takes you from Shea Goru to Chhatru. After the challenging pass-crossing day, this day feels comparatively easier, though the trail still requires careful walking because of rocky terrain and stream crossings.

The trek begins after breakfast and follows a descending route through the rugged landscapes of Lahaul. The terrain here is very different from the green meadows of Manali and Jwara. You will walk through moraine sections, loose rocks, dry mountain slopes and open valleys. This changing landscape is one of the biggest reasons travellers choose this Hampta Pass trekking package.

During the trek, you may cross cold streams depending on weather and water levels. Waterproof trekking shoes, trekking poles and careful foot placement are very useful on this day. The views remain wide and dramatic, with barren mountains and open sky around you.

After reaching Chhatru, trekkers usually relax and rest after completing the main trekking section. Chhatru is an important roadhead and camping location on the Lahaul side.

Depending on road conditions, weather, permissions and the selected package, the team may also plan a visit to Chandratal Lake. Chandratal is one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in Himachal Pradesh and is often included in many Hampta Pass Chandratal Trek packages. The visit is subject to conditions because mountain roads can be affected by weather, snow, landslides or local restrictions.

For travellers searching for Hampta Pass Trek with Chandratal Lake, this optional visit adds great value to the overall experience. However, it should always be treated as weather and road-condition dependent.

Trek Distance: Approx. 6 km
Trek Duration: Around 4.5 hours
Altitude Loss: Approx. 12,864 ft to 10,898 ft
Optional Visit: Chandratal Lake, subject to weather and road conditions
Stay: Campsite / Arrangement at Chhatru

Day 6
Day 6: Drive from Chhatru to Manali

The final day of the Hampta Pass Trek begins with breakfast at Chhatru. After completing the trek, you drive back to Manali through scenic mountain roads. This drive marks the end of your 6 days Himalayan adventure.

The route from Chhatru to Manali offers beautiful views of the surrounding valleys, rugged mountains and high-altitude landscapes. Depending on the road and weather conditions, the drive may take several hours. Trekkers are usually expected to reach Manali by afternoon or evening.

Once you arrive in Manali, the Hampta Pass Trek from Manali officially ends. You can plan your return journey from Manali to Delhi, Chandigarh or your next travel destination. Many trekkers prefer staying one extra night in Manali after the trek to rest before travelling back.

By the end of this trek, you will have experienced green valleys, riverside trails, high-altitude campsites, snow patches, Hampta Pass crossing, Lahaul landscapes and possibly Chandratal Lake. This makes Hampta Pass one of the most complete and rewarding short Himalayan treks in India.

The trek team managed everything very professionally, including food, camping and guidance. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a safe and scenic Himalayan trek.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Trek from Manali

Hampta Pass Trek was one of the best treks I have done near Manali. The change in landscape from Kullu Valley to Lahaul was truly magical. The guides were supportive and the campsite locations were beautiful. It is a perfect trek for beginners with good fitness.

The easiest and most common way to reach the Hampta Pass Trek is through Manali, Himachal Pradesh. Trekkers usually arrive in Manali first, and from there the journey continues towards Jobra, which is the starting point of the Hampta Pass Trek.

Delhi to Manali

Manali is well connected with Delhi and Chandigarh by road. The distance from Delhi to Manali is around 530–540 km, and the journey usually takes 12 to 14 hours by overnight Volvo bus or private vehicle, depending on traffic and road conditions.

By Road

Travelling by road is the most preferred option for trekkers. You can take a direct overnight Volvo bus from Delhi to Manali. Buses are available from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Majnu Ka Tilla and other major boarding points in Delhi.

You can also travel from Chandigarh to Manali, which is around 300 km and takes approximately 8 to 10 hours by bus or taxi. Many trekkers from other cities first reach Chandigarh and then continue to Manali by road.

By Train

There is no direct train to Manali. The nearest major railway stations are Chandigarh and Pathankot. From Delhi, you can take a train to Chandigarh or Pathankot and then travel to Manali by bus or taxi.

For most trekkers, the Delhi to Chandigarh train and then Chandigarh to Manali road journey is a convenient option.

By Flight

The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar Airport, also known as Kullu-Manali Airport. It is located around 50 km from Manali. From Bhuntar, you can take a taxi or local bus to reach Manali.

However, flights to Bhuntar can be limited and weather-dependent. Many travellers prefer flying to Delhi or Chandigarh and then taking a road journey to Manali.

Manali to Hampta Pass Trek Starting Point

From Manali, the trek usually starts with a drive to Jobra, the roadhead for the Hampta Pass Trek. The drive from Manali to Jobra takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions.

After reaching Jobra, trekkers begin the trekking route towards Chika, Jwara, Balu Ka Ghera, Hampta Pass, Shea Goru and Chhatru as per the itinerary.

Things to Carry for Hampta Pass Trek

Packing properly is very important for the Hampta Pass Trek, because the trail includes forests, meadows, river crossings, rocky sections, snow patches and cold high-altitude campsites. The weather in Himachal can change quickly, so trekkers should carry the right trekking gear, warm layers and safety essentials.

1. Trekking Shoes

For the Hampta Pass Trek, you need sturdy trekking shoes with good ankle support and strong grip. The trail includes rocks, mud, snow patches and stream crossings, so normal sports shoes are not suitable.

Choose trekking shoes that are:

  • High-ankle or mid-ankle
  • Good grip sole
  • Water-resistant
  • Comfortable for long walking hours
  • Already used before the trek

Avoid wearing brand-new shoes directly on the trek, as they may cause shoe bites or discomfort.

2. Backpack

Carry a 50–60 litre backpack for the Hampta Pass Trek. Your backpack should have good shoulder support, hip support and enough compartments to keep your essentials organized.

A good trekking backpack should include:

  • Comfortable padded straps
  • Waist belt for better load balance
  • Rain cover
  • Easy-access pockets
  • Strong zippers
  • Lightweight design

Pack only necessary items. Avoid overpacking, because carrying extra weight can make the trek difficult.

3. Clothing for Hampta Pass Trek

Layering is the best way to stay protected in the mountains. Weather on the Hampta Pass Trek from Manali can change from sunny to rainy or cold within a short time. Instead of carrying one heavy jacket, carry multiple layers.

Base Layer – T-Shirts

Carry 3 quick-dry T-shirts:

  • 2 extra T-shirts
  • 1 T-shirt to wear

Full-sleeve dry-fit T-shirts are better because they protect your arms and neck from sunburn. Avoid cotton T-shirts, as they absorb sweat and take a long time to dry.

Thermal Innerwear

Carry one pair of thermal innerwear if you feel cold easily. Thermals are useful during cold nights at higher campsites like Balu Ka Ghera and Shea Goru.

4. Warm Layers

Even during summer, nights on the Hampta Pass Trek can be cold. Carry proper warm layers to stay comfortable at high-altitude campsites.

Recommended warm clothing:

  • 1 thermal inner
  • 1 fleece jacket
  • 1 light sweater or warm layer
  • 1 padded jacket with hood

A padded jacket is useful as an outer layer because it protects you from cold wind. Avoid heavy woollen sweaters because they take more space and become difficult to carry.

5. Trek Pants

Carry 2 trekking pants for the Hampta Pass Trek.

Trekking pants should be:

  • Quick-dry
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable for walking
  • Stretchable
  • Preferably with zip pockets

Avoid jeans, as they become heavy when wet and are uncomfortable for trekking. Track pants can be used as backup, but trekking pants are better for mountain trails.

6. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are very important on the Hampta Pass Trek, especially if there are snow patches near the pass. Snow reflects sunlight strongly and can cause discomfort or snow blindness.

Choose sunglasses with:

  • UV protection
  • Good coverage
  • Comfortable fit
  • Strong frame

Wear sunglasses during bright sunny sections, open meadows and snowy areas.

7. Sun Cap

A sun cap is necessary during daytime trekking. It protects your head and face from direct sunlight and helps prevent dehydration, headache and sunstroke.

In the mountains, UV rays can be harsh even when the weather feels cool. Keep your head covered during sunny sections.

8. Hand Gloves

Carry warm hand gloves for cold mornings, evenings and snowy sections. Gloves help protect your hands from cold wind, snow and rough rocks.

Best option:

  • Inner fleece gloves
  • Outer waterproof or windproof gloves

Hand gloves are especially useful on the Hampta Pass crossing day.

9. Woollen Cap or Balaclava

A woollen cap or balaclava is important for cold nights and early mornings. A lot of body heat is lost through the head, so keeping your head covered helps you stay warm.

A balaclava is even better because it covers:

  • Head
  • Ears
  • Neck
  • Part of the face

Carry a neck warmer or scarf if your cap does not cover your neck.

10. Socks

Carry 3–4 pairs of socks for the Hampta Pass Trek.

Recommended socks:

  • 2–3 pairs of sports socks
  • 1 pair of woollen socks for night

Avoid cotton socks because they absorb sweat and take longer to dry. Synthetic or wool-blend socks are better for trekking.

11. Head Torch / Headlamp

A headlamp is better than a handheld torch because it keeps your hands free. It is useful at campsites, during early morning starts, toilet visits at night and emergency situations.

Carry extra batteries or make sure the headlamp is fully charged before the trek.

12. Trekking Pole

A trekking pole is highly useful on the Hampta Pass Trek. It helps with balance during steep climbs, descents, stream crossings and rocky sections.

Benefits of trekking pole:

  • Reduces pressure on knees
  • Improves balance
  • Helps during descent
  • Useful on snow and loose trails

One trekking pole is enough, but two poles provide better support.

13. Rainwear / Poncho

Weather in the mountains can change quickly. A sunny day can turn rainy within minutes, especially during the monsoon season.

Carry either:

  • Poncho
  • Rain jacket
  • Rain pants

A poncho is useful because it can cover both you and part of your backpack.

14. Rain Cover for Backpack

Your backpack must stay dry throughout the trek. Wet clothes and sleeping layers can create serious discomfort at campsites.

Most trekking bags come with a rain cover. If your bag does not have one, buy a separate rain cover before the trek.

15. Daypack

A 20–30 litre daypack is useful if you are offloading your main backpack to a mule or porter. In your daypack, carry important items that you may need during the day.

Keep these items in your daypack:

  • Water bottle
  • Rainwear
  • Snacks
  • Sunglasses
  • Gloves
  • Cap
  • Personal medicines
  • Power bank
  • Basic first-aid items

Even if you offload your main bag, never send all your essentials with the porter.

16. Water Bottle

Carry at least 2 water bottles or a hydration bladder. Staying hydrated is very important at high altitude.

You can also carry ORS or electrolyte sachets to maintain energy during long trekking days.

17. Personal Medical Kit

Carry your personal medicines along with a small basic medical kit.

Suggested items:

  • Personal medicines
  • Pain relief spray
  • Band-aids
  • ORS
  • Digestion tablets
  • Cold and cough medicine
  • Antiseptic cream
  • Motion sickness medicine
  • Any prescribed medicine

Inform the trek leader about any medical condition before starting the trek.

18. Toiletries and Personal Care

Carry only basic toiletries in small quantities.

Useful items:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Tissue paper
  • Wet wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Lip balm
  • Moisturizer
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Small towel

Avoid carrying heavy bottles or unnecessary cosmetic products.

19. Documents

Carry original and photocopy of your ID proof.

Indian trekkers should carry:

  • Aadhaar Card / Voter ID / Driving License

Foreign travellers should carry:

  • Passport
  • Visa copy
  • Travel insurance
  • Emergency contact details

Documents may be required for permits and verification.

20. Optional Items

These items are not compulsory but can be useful:

  • Power bank
  • Camera
  • Extra plastic bags
  • Energy bars
  • Dry fruits
  • Small notebook
  • Lightweight slippers for campsite

I recently had the pleasure of booking my Kedarkantha trek through himalayan warriors, and I must say, the experience exceeded my expectations. From start to finish, their service was professional, efficient, and incredibly customer-focused.

The itinerary was well-planned, ensuring we got to experience the best of Kedarkantha’s stunning landscapes without feeling rushed. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help, making the trek both safe and enjoyable.

Accommodation and meals provided during the trek were impressive considering the remote location. The team ensured all trekkers were comfortable and had the necessary gear and support.

What stood out most was their attention to detail and prompt communication.

I highly recommend himalayan warrior to anyone planning a Kedarkantha trek. Their expertise and passion for creating memorable adventures truly shine through!

I have completed my Kedarkantha trek with Himalayan warrior. Let me just briefly explain my experience. We were a group of 12-13 people and we were picked up from Dehradun railway station. The tempo traveller wala bhaiya is so supportive that during the transit 2-3 people got sick and he managed the timely drive. After we reached the base of the kedarkantha trek i.e. Sankri was taken to a campsite and welcomed by the Himalayan warrior people with light refreshments. The duration of the trek was 3-4 days depending upon your speed and team of himalayan warrior from team leader, organizer, cook to server all were proficient in their duty. I completely suggest to every trek enthusiast to choose himalayan warrior for their upcoming trek.

My journey on the Kedarnath Trek was absolutely life-changing and will always be etched in my spirit. I was mesmerised by the Himalayas’ stunning natural grandeur and the atmosphere of enfolding spirituality from the moment I stepped foot on the route.

The hike itself was difficult yet worthwhile. I travelled along the path through stunning scenery, thick forests, and over raging rivers. As I moved closer to the famed Kedarnath Temple, I felt wonder and devotion with every step. The region’s spiritual essence and unspoiled natural beauty combined to create a setting that was both humbling and powerful.

It was quite emotional to see the Kedarnath Temple’s morning prayers and ceremonies.a deep spiritual journey. It provides a special fusion of scenic beauty, cultural relevance, and reflection. The journey tested, encouraged, and eventually changed me. I returned from Kedarnath with an increased sense of gratitude, a stronger bond with the natural world, and a great appreciation for the strength of religion. I will always treasure that experience, and I wholeheartedly endorse it to anybody looking for a memorable and important vacation.

It was a feeling of complete joy and success to arrive to the Kedarnath Temple. Words cannot properly express the sensation that was created by the spiritual energy, the pilgrims’ commitment, and the breathtaking Himalayan background. It was a really emotional and humbling event that affected my soul greatly.

To sum up, starting the Kedarnath Trek with Himalayan Warrior was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The adventure was safe, fun, and genuinely remarkable because to their professionalism, competence, and dedication to ethical trekking. I am incredibly appreciative of the experiences, friendships, and personal development that this experience has given me. I heartily advise teaming up with Himalayan Warrior if you’re looking for an exciting journey in the Himalayas.
